The Friends of the Greensburg & Decatur County Animal Shelter Board and its volunteers are gearing up for a new community fundraiser while honoring the memory of a beloved former shelter director.
The Minde’s Tails & Trails Memorial Ride is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, activities beginning at noon at the Greensburg Decatur County Animal Shelter.
The idea for a Jeep ride had been discussed for some time. Following the unexpected passing of former Animal Shelter Director Minde Myers, organizers decided to turn that vision into a memorial fundraiser. Proceeds from the event will support the Friends organization’s ongoing campaign to help outfit a future new animal shelter.
Participants will depart from the Greensburg Decatur County Animal Shelter for a scenic ride through the countryside, making stops at several local establishments before concluding at Links Tavern on the downtown square.
Organizers are excited to bring the community together for a day of fellowship while supporting a meaningful cause.

The cost for Jeep registration is $50, Motorcycle registration is $40 and a meal ticket is $10. A t-shirt is included in your registration.
Raffle baskets will be available at both the beginning of the ride and again at the final stop. The Friends of the Greensburg & Decatur County Animal Shelter operates under Charity Gaming License No. 17359.

The board and volunteers expressed their gratitude to the community for its continued generosity and support of the organization and the local animal shelter.
The Friends of the Greensburg & Decatur County Animal Shelter is a volunteer-led nonprofit that hosts fundraisers and community events while providing financial support for medical cases and special projects at the shelter. We are not part of the Decatur County Government. Past projects have included purchasing dog houses for outdoor kennels, an air filtration system for the quarantine area, a cremulator, funding multiple medical surgeries, and other shelter needs that are brought to us by the Animal Shelter Director. We also work to help increase publicity for the shelter and continue to advocate for adoptions and fostering at the shelter.
In addition to supporting current shelter needs, the organization is actively building a fund dedicated to outfitting a future animal shelter.
