Greensburg-based Shepherd Boy Farms among local employers benefiting from workforce development initiative

PLAINFIELD, Ind. – The Duke Energy Foundation has awarded a $35,000 grant to the Ivy Tech Foundation to support workforce development efforts in Decatur County. The shareholder-funded grant will help equip Hoosiers with in-demand skills, strengthen the local talent pipeline, and support the workforce needs of growing employers across the region.

Local impact

The grant will enable Ivy Tech Community College’s Greensburg campus to expand workforce training opportunities, certifications, and skill development programs that align with the needs of local businesses and industries.

§  One of those businesses is Shepherd Boy Farms, a Greensburg-based manufacturer of premium freeze-dried pet food and treats. The company is currently expanding its operations with the addition of a second manufacturing facility, creating new jobs and strengthening its manufacturing footprint in Decatur County.

What they’re saying

“We’re building a world-class manufacturing operation right here in Greensburg, and that starts with investing in great people,” said Ashton Hood, founder and CEO of Shepherd Boy Farms. “As we continue to grow, creating opportunities for our team and attracting talented individuals to our community remains a top priority. This partnership will help us strengthen our workforce, support employee development, and continue producing premium American-made, farm to table natural pet food and treats while creating meaningful jobs in Decatur County.”

Our view

“Our local business leaders consistently tell us that access to a skilled workforce is critical to the continued growth and success of the communities we serve,” said Stan Pinegar, president of Duke Energy Indiana. “That’s why we’re collaborating with Ivy Tech in Greensburg on their efforts to provide specialized training and educational opportunities designed to help local employers develop their workforce. It’s an investment that will support the long-term economic vitality of Decatur County and the surrounding region.”
