Zach went on to provide an update on Liberty Lakes by saying that they are moving forward and are finishing up the first home that is being built as a show house. Zach also said that the project will be going in front of the City BZA for approvals for the project. The Electric, Gas, and Fiber Internet installation is set to begin next week. At this time Zach had no updates on Property Marketing. He said that he did have a developer look at the 12-acre property but that they were looking at it more as an investment.
Rob Dehoff, Decatur County Parks & Recreation provided an update on the progress at the Diamonds. Rob went over the impact study on the revenue that could be generated by the tournaments that he is working to negotiate for the Sports Complex. Rob provided a rough estimate that if they see 14 tournaments the return on investment in the community could be more then 3 million dollars through lodging, restaurants, and miscellaneous revenue in the city and county. Rob states that he is really focusing on creating an experience that will encourage tournaments to move from surrounding counties into Decatur County. Rob reiterated that this investment is going to benefit Decatur County youth and also provide revenue for the city and county. Following Rob’s presentation, he requested that the City of Greensburg become partners on the project and asked that the City of Greensburg Redevelopment Commission provide the $100,000 that the project is short to complete Phase 1, Phase 2a, and Phase 2b.
Following Rob’s request for the $100,000. Darren Burkhart asked Chris Stephens, City Attorney if they are able to provide funding for this project since it sits outside the city of Greensburg. Chris Stephens stated that he would need to do some research on exactly where the Economic District ends in that area and bring back information to the commission on the legality of contributing the $100,000.
The commission approved the regular January claims in the amount of $315,173.76.
The meeting was adjourned.
