Letts Fire Department Post on a Thursday night house fire.
Last night, Decatur County Communications received a report of a structure fire. Law enforcement, Letts Fire Department, Westport Fire Department, and DCEMS were dispatched to 5587 South 60 SW. Ladder 450 upgraded the alarm to a working fire and requested additional departments due to seeing the fire over a mile away.
When L450 arrived, the home was 100% involved with structural collapse. A defensive attack was initiated. Firefighting efforts were hampered by snow and ice conditions, as well as limited access to the property. The home is a total loss.
Additional assistance was requested from Greensburg Fire Department, Burney-Clay Township Fire Department, Millhousen-Marion Township Fire Department, DCEMS, and Decatur County Highway. Hulsbosch Dairy Farm provided a tractor to pull out apparatus that had become stuck. Decatur County REMC and CenterPoint Energy also responded to the scene.
