Leising attends State Ag and Rural Leaders Summit

STATEHOUSE (May 26, 2022) — Last week, State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg) attended the State Agriculture and Rural Leaders (SARL) 2022 Ag Chairs Summit in Boise, Idaho.

SARL invites agriculture and natural resource leaders from across the United States and Canada each year to discuss agriculture, natural resource and rural legislation different states considered or passed.

As chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and member of the SARL National Board of Directors, Leising was a speaker at the event, sharing about Indiana’s improved meat and poultry processing and home-based vendor sale regulations.

“I was humbled to represent Indiana among this group of national agricultural and natural resource leaders,” Leising said. “As chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, it is important for me to stay up to date on issues that might impact Indiana and understand how to help address current concerns expressed by rural communities in our state.”

In addition, Leising attended sessions highlighting carbon sequestration, livestock challenges and agriculture technology. Demonstrations led by Corteva, which presented an agricultural robot to ‘walk’ between rows of crops, and the United States Environmental Protection Agency were provided during sessions.

The summit also included tours of the Simplot potato processing plant, which processes McDonald’s French fries, and the Syngenta corn research center.
