STATEHOUSE (Aug. 21, 2026) – Important resources are available to residents of Franklin and Fayette counties impacted by recent flooding, said State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg).
Residents of Senate District 42 who were affected by flooding are urged to call 211 to report damage to their property. Due to an influx in calls, callers should expect a 15-minute wait time before speaking with a representative.
By calling 211, impacted residents can also receive information about the $5,000 emergency grants now available through the state’s Disaster Relief Fund. These grants will help cover the costs for necessities like food and clothing.
The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority is also providing temporary housing grants to assist those who were displaced by the floods transition from emergency shelters into temporary housing like hotels or apartments. Residents may be eligible to receive $150 a day for up to 30 days. Residents can receive more information about these grants by calling 211, or by visiting IN211.communityos.org.
Veterans affected by the flood and in need of temporary housing should apply for short-term financial assistancefrom the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs. This program is available through Sept. 13. More information can be found at the IDVA website at in.gov/dva.
Anyone looking to help victims impacted by the floods can also donate to the United Way of Franklin County, theFranklin County Community Foundation, the Fayette County Community Foundation and the Laurel Legacy Foundation, all of which will go to disaster relief efforts.

It will take time to recover, but these important resources will help our community rebuild stronger than before,” Leising said. “I am working diligently with state and local leaders to ensure we are doing everything in our power to help those in need and ensure residents know what options are available to them. During this time, it is important for everyone to work together to help those in need.”
