Lily Scholarship application available next week

From the Decatur County Community Foundation

The 2024 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship application will be available as of August
1st in Decatur County through the Decatur County Community Foundation.
The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program (LECSP) will provide 147 scholarships
statewide, including one in Decatur County. LECSP scholarships may be used for otherwise
unreimbursed full tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $900 per year. The
special allocation may cover the costs for required books and required equipment for four years
of undergraduate study on a full-time basis leading to a baccalaureate degree at any eligible
Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university.
The program, administered statewide by Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) and locally in
Decatur County through the Community Foundation, is open locally to Decatur County residents
who:

  • will graduate from an accredited Indiana high school by 2024 and receive their diploma
    no later than June 30, 2024;
  • intend to pursue a full-time baccalaureate course of study at an eligible college or
    university in Indiana; and
  • have a current unweighted grade point average of 3.4 or higher
Decatur County students can learn more about the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship and
apply by visiting dccfound.org. Applications must be completed and submitted by noon on
August 22, 2023 to be considered. Students will then complete a controlled essay at their local
high school on August 23. Students who attend high school outside of Decatur County must
contact DCCF to arrange to attend one of the local schools prior to this date.
Applicants will be evaluated on, but not limited to, application and essay scores. Five finalists
will be nominated by the Community Foundation, and submitted to ICI for final selection in
December. The four students not receiving the Lilly will be named Decatur County Community
Foundation scholars and will receive $5,000 towards tuition at the Indiana school of their choice.
Lilly Endowment created LECSP for the 1997-98 school year and has supported the program
every year since with tuition grants totaling more than $486 million. More than 5,000 Indiana
students have received Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships since the program’s
    inception.
