Geenex Solar/Cobia Solar was the only petition before the Decatur County Board of Zoning Appeals this week. The meeting started at 7 PM with statements made by the board that there would not be a vote at that meeting and the cut-off time would be 10 PM. The meeting recessed around 9::30 with plans to pick up at the December 4th meeting. Cobia Solar is expected to start with their rebuttal for the statements made by the opposition. During the meeting, Geenex laid out details about their plans. Four of the property owners spoke. The opposition (come to be known as the yellow shirts) gave a presentation similar to what they had given when RWE had sought approval for solar.
Geenex is requesting a “Special Exception” for construction of a commercial solar energy facility. Their site plan includes 7049 acres under contract, 5363 would be behind fencing. Cobia says this represents approximately 2 percent of land in Decatur County,
