Protecting Indiana’s Water Supply

From State Senator Jean Leising

From the Ohio River in the south to Lake Michigan in the north, access to water resources has allowed Indiana to grow and prosper throughout its history.

This year, we are prioritizing protecting our state’s water resources with Senate Bill 4, which would require a permit for basin-to-basin water transfers and other large, long-distance water pipelines.

Indiana has plenty of water to meet our needs, but since that water is not evenly distributed across the state, SB 4 would set up a process to ensure large water transfers consider both hydrological and economic impacts on a region.
