Purdue University Faculty Visit Decatur County on Southeastern Indiana Tour

Purdue University brought a team of 37 faculty members from the College of Veterinary Medicine and the College of Agriculture to Decatur County as part of their Southeastern Indiana Tour. The group included prominent leaders such as Dr. Bret Marsh, Dean of the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine, Chief Executive Officer of the Purdue University Veterinary Hospital, and Clinical Professor of Veterinary Medicine, as well as Dr. Bernard Engel, Glenn W. Sample Dean of Agriculture and Sustainability, Engineering, and Environmental Engineering.

The Decatur County portion of the tour began at Hulscbosch Family Farm, where participants had the opportunity to engage directly with local agricultural operations. The attendees had the opportunity to be in the right place as a calf was being born at Hulscbosch while they were visiting. The group then visited Lowe’s Pellet & Grain before stopping for lunch at Tree City Brew Co. in downtown Greensburg. Their final stop was Jackman’s Animal Clinic in Milroy, before returning to campus in West Lafayette.

According to Julia Wickard, Executive Director of the Purdue University Veterinary Medicine Alumni Association and Constituent Liaison, the tour is designed to connect Purdue faculty with agribusinesses, veterinary professionals, and members of the agricultural community. “This tour is an opportunity for faculty to meet with those working in agriculture and veterinary medicine, so they can see firsthand how what happens at the university level applies to the farm-to-gate level,” Wickard said.

The Southeastern Indiana Tour is part of Purdue’s ongoing commitment to bridging academic research with real-world agricultural and veterinary practices, fostering stronger relationships between the university and rural communities across Indiana.
