Pursuit in Decatur County ends with crash and injuries

From Indiana State Police – On March 26th, 2024, at approximately 8:15 P.M., Indiana State Police was contacted by the Greensburg Police Department for a crash reconstruction to be conducted. Troopers were advised that the crash occurred at the intersection of East Nightingale Drive and Barachel Lane, in Greensburg, Indiana.  According to Greensburg Police Department, the crash initiated from a suspicious vehicle incident at the Walmart parking lot. The Greensburg Officer stated that when officers arrived, the male driver of the Chevrolet got in the truck and fled the scene. The Chevrolet drove south from the parking lot and ramped the Chevrolet through a grass ditch line. The Officer stated that he lost sight of the Chevrolet but stated that the Chevrolet continued South onto East Nightingale Drive. The Officer then drove South down East Nightingale Drive and encountered the two-vehicle crash. The Officer stated he did not witness the crash. Both drivers were transported to the IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Both the driver of the Chevrolet; Chane Rager of Nebraska, and the driver of the Toyota Tacoma; John Brooks of Greensburg, Indiana, sustained serious injuries. Brooks was flown to the Hospital by Stat Flight. Greensburg Police Department advised that the Silver Chevrolet driven by Rager, was confirmed to be stolen from Nebraska. Additionally, Rager had active warrants, non-extraditable, through Nebraska alleging Theft. Greensburg Police Department will be handling the criminal case, and the Indiana State Police will be handling the crash reconstruction. This crash is still under investigation. Involving Agencies; Indiana State Police, Greensburg Police Department, Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, Greensburg Fire/EMS, and Sweets Towing Service.

All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
