Security Passageway Found During Construction in Front of 132 N. Franklin St.

The City of Greensburg posted the following discovery on their Facebook page on 7/30/25:

You never know what you’ll find on the construction site!

Schutte Excavating and our Water Department crews found an old security passageway to the basement of 132 N. Franklin Street. Passageways like this were used for storage, utility access, and possibly deliveries for large buildings in the 19th and 20th centuries. What a cool find!

Even with this discovery, residents are reminded that this area of Washington Street is still an active construction zone- we are getting closer to our September completion date, please stay away from construction equipment, mind the closures, and find an alternate route to navigate downtown.

Thank you for your continue patience during the Washington Streetscape project!
