The Arc of Decatur County Launches New Community Autism Support Night: “Kickoff into the Zone”

The Arc of Decatur County is thrilled to announce a new initiative aimed at fostering support, connection, and community for individuals with autism and their families. The event is titled “Kickoff into the Zone,” will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Greensburg Learning Center, located at 422 E. Central Avenue, Greensburg, IN 47240. Please use the entrance in the back parking lot off Lincoln Street.

This newly formed Community Autism Support Night is designed to bring together individuals, families, caregivers, and community members for an evening of encouragement, information sharing, and resource connection. Light refreshments will be provided.

Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP by Monday, October 27th, to help organizers prepare. RSVPs can be made by calling Teresa Hooten, Executive Director of The Arc of Decatur County, at 812-900-3789.

Local parent and advocate Hollie Payton expressed her excitement for the new group, saying,

“This new, exciting group will help to build friendships with other caregivers, attendees, and to build community for my son so that he can make new friends. I’m excited to learn more about community resources and lend an ear to others who may be in need of a listening ear.”

Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to visit the new office of The Arc of Decatur County, located at 355 South Michigan Avenue, Greensburg, IN 47240. Executive Director Teresa Hooten gave a warm welcome and shared her excitement about the future of the organization heading into 2026.

Reflecting on her decades of service, Hooten shared,

“I have been involved with The Arc of Decatur County for 34 years since Morgan was born! I am grateful for those who paved a path for us to follow. The path is ever-changing, but it still leads to having our children and loved ones be the best that they can be—by sharing the journey together.”
