The Decatur County Community Schools Board of Education met on Wednesday.

The board approved the following field trips: North Decatur Boys Basketball to D1 Camp, North Decatur Elementary Boy’s and Girl’s Lunch Groups to Kings Island, North Decatur National Archery Tournament to Kentucky Exposition Center, and North Decatur FFA to IN FFA Leadership Center. The resignations of Thomas Couch- North Decatur, Erica Couch- North Decatur, and Angie Johnson- South Decatur were approved. The hirings of Chris Hampton- North Decatur, Brittany Lichtenberger- South Decatur, Stephanie Barber- North Decatur, Jason Murray- North Decatur, Michelle Russell- North Decatur, and Georga Cloud- North Decatur were approved.
The board approved the NEOLA Policy Updates.
The extra effort award for South Decatur Elementary School went to Mary Ann Smith and Cindy Wilkerson. Words cannot express how thankful they are for the both of them and they wish them the best in their retirement.The extra effort award for South Decatur High School went to Zach Manson. They are a fresh face at the school this year and have brought student improvement and a positive influence.
The board approved the annual renewal with Chartwells Food Service. The board approved the purchase of a bus for $67,300. All student fundraisers were approved. The disposal of obsolete equipment was approved. All donations totaling in $1,330 were accepted.
Nicole Stone gave an update on South Decatur Elementary. They are gearing up for the end of the year which is always a busy time for them. May 5 will be the Spring Fling Fine Arts Show. They had every student prepare a letter or a card for the Veteran’s Honor Flight. They currently have 58 kindergartners signed up and their preschool is full.
Stuart Durham gave an update on South Decatur High School. They are wrapping up the end of the year as well. During lunch they have had employer table talks and SAT scores were released to students. Their spring plays went very well. Prom is on May 7 and the theme is “Dripping in Luxury”.
