On July 4, 2026 at approximately 3:13 am, Decatur County Communications received a
call regarding a physical altercation between two males on Race Street in Westport, IN.
The investigation determined that Jacob G. Brewer, 27 years of age, went to the residence
on Race Street and confronted the resident there. Brewer produced a firearm, pointed it
at the resident and pulled the trigger, but the firearm did not discharge. The physical
altercation then ensued between Brewer and the resident. Both Brewer and the resident
suffered injuries.
Brewer then left the residence and was located shortly thereafter at a location in Jennings
County, IN. The firearm Brewer brought to the residence was recovered at the Race
Street location and was later determined to have been stolen from a residence in the
Millhousen area of Decatur County.
Brewer was arrested on the following charges:
Attempted Murder, a Level 1 Felony
Intimidation, a Level 5 Felony
Theft, a Level 5 Felony, and
Battery, a Level 6 Felony
Brewer had his initial hearing in the Decatur Circuit Court on Wednesday, July 8, 2026
and bond was set at $750,000.00.
Assisting the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department was Decatur County
Communications, |Decatur County EMS, Westport Fire Department and Jennings County
Sheriff’s Department.
