The meeting began with the approval of the May 12th meeting minutes, adjustments, payroll vouchers, and monthly bills.
The Fire Department received their first installment of $12,500 and the Kiwanis received their first installment of $3,000 from the town council.
Rachel, Commonwealth Engineering stated that more crews are to be expected over the next few weeks and that the project continues to move forward.
Southeastern Indiana Regional Planning Commission representatives Victoria and Kylie spoke stating that they are looking at a couple grant projects. The first thing they discussed was possible park plan that would be a 12-month process. They spoke about creating a Park Board and what that would require. With this plan it would make the town eligible to compete for future grant opportunities. The estimated cost of the plan would be $1,000 to the city. Council members discussed concerns that this could be viewed as stepping on the Westport Kiwanis feet.
The other topic that SIRPC brought to the meeting was completing a Water Improvement Plan. Would begin working on this project in the near future for accepting proposals. This would also include a resident survey to capture additional information for the grant application. The grant would be due later this fall. The grant would be for OCRA funding. This was discussed by the council with no decisions made during the meeting.
Second reading and approval for Ordinance 2025-3 which included information for the staggered town elections as approved during the May meeting.
First reading of Ordinance 2025-4 Additional Appropriations which included community crossing funds, motor vehicle highway, motor vehicle highway administration funds. This ordinance was approved on its first reading.
Damon Land stated that the work being done in town the contractor has requested road closure on Washington Street on Wednesday to allow connection of pipes, and this is going to occur. Damn requested approval to work on storm drain work on Shady Lane using funds that he already has budgeted. The board approved Damon to move forward with the requested storm drain work. Damon received approval to have the oldest building at the Sewer plant needs painted and he received an estimate of $3855.60 for the entire building being one color. At this time, they are beginning to see rust on the building. The board approved the request for painting with funding already budgeted.
Paul, citizen stated that he received a letter from the town requesting clean-up of his property. He stated that he received fines for not having the work completed within 10 days, but he states that the rain delayed him. The board said that they will take a look at the information and discuss an extension. The council thanked him for coming and discussing this and they state that they will work with them to move forward.
Walter, citizen voiced his concerns about the bridge that is located on his property. He states that its “all packed underneath there”. He said that this bridge belongs to the county and requests that it be cleaned up.
