North Decatur Chargers Varsity Drops Game To Union County After Late Score

Tuesday’s game against Union County was a heartbreaker for North Decatur Chargers Varsity, as they lost the lead late in a 17-5 defeat. Union County was down 3-2 in the top of the fifth inning when Mason Hornung singled on a 0-2 count, scoring two runs.
The North Decatur Chargers Varsity struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Union County, giving up 17 runs.
Alex Vanwinkle led things off on the hill for Union County. The hurler went two innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out five and walking one.
Jacob Mirick was on the pitcher’s mound for North Decatur Chargers Varsity. The lefthander surrendered zero runs on two hits over two innings, striking out three and walking zero. Carson Parmer, Ty Litmer, Trent Gauck, and Nate O’Dell each entered the game as relief, throwing two innings, two innings, two-thirds of an inning, and one-third of an inning respectively.
North Decatur Chargers Varsity tallied eight hits on the day. Conner Messer and Gauck each managed multiple hits for North Decatur Chargers Varsity. Gauck and Messer all had two hits to lead North Decatur Chargers Varsity.
Union County racked up 17 hits in the game. Eric Burdine, Mason Wicker, Vanwinkle, Mason Tipton, Josh Klein, and Noah Taylor all collected multiple hits for Union County. Burdine led Union County with three hits in four at bats
