Alice “Bonnie” LaVonne (Pitts) Slone, 94

Alice LaVonne (Pitts) Slone “Bonnie” was born June 29, 1928, in Zionsville, Indiana, and went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Nov 2, 2022.  She was the daughter of Marvin C. and Ethyl (Hamilton) Pitts.  She graduated from St. Paul High School and attended Indiana Business College in Indianapolis, IN, completing the Stenographic Course with a certificate of proficiency, Jan 31, 1947.  She was employed by Eli Lilly. 

In June of 1971 she and her husband, Rev. Vernon Slone, moved to Prestonsburg, KY, where together they founded Middle Creek Baptist Church of Blue River, KY until Vernon resigned as pastor in September 2003, because of illness.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vernon Slone, married 42 years.

Bonnie has three sons, Duane Bottom (Brenda) of Deltona, FL, Bruce Bottom (Linda) Louisville, KY, Marlin Bottom (Sherri) Grapevine, TX; and three step-sons, Charles Vernon Slone (Pam) Carmel, IN, Michael Slone (Paula) New Palestine, IN, and David Slone (Debi) Fishers, IN.  Fifteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

She had one sister, Lenora Hadler (John), two brothers, Merle Pitts (Virginia) and George Pitts (Carroll) all who have preceded her in death, and a cousin that she loved, as if her brother, Wilbur Tressler (Irene), and many nieces and nephews.

Bonnie lost her mother in a tragic accident while still a baby.  She was raised by her loving aunt and uncle, Thomas “Ed” and Mary Bates.  She was loved by many growing up and well cared for, but has been heard to say; “When I get to heaven, first I want to kiss Jesus, then I want to find my mom.”

A visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, November 10, 2022 at the Zion United Methodist Church, 2995 S. County Road 550 E. Greensburg, from 1:00 pm until the time of the Funeral at 2:00 pm. Rev. Dennis Hadler will be officiating.  Burial will follow at the Zion Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery Association.  Online condolences can be made to the family at www.gilliland-howe.com
