Carolyn Cozette Stephens, 92, of Columbus passed away Tuesday October 7,
2025, at Our Hospice in Columbus Indiana. She was born on December 10, 1932,
in Greensburg, KY, the only daughter of Dudley and Fern (Harrison) Jeffries,
where her childhood was spent in the hollers of Kentucky. The only daughter
of four meant she spent her days helping care for her younger brothers on the
farm. She married James B. Stephens in Glasgow, Kentucky on January 12, 1949.
She worked for over 20 years for Benzol Cleaners then retired from Cummins
Engine Company. She then went to work for the Bartholomew County School
Corporation for many more years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother,
great grandmother and sister. She enjoyed anything that had to do with her
family. Family dinners and holidays were her favorite. The joy she felt just
sitting at the table watching everyone laugh and tell stories was what made
her feel whole. She was a wonderful cook and loved nothing more than
preparing a huge meal and feeding anyone who came in the door, no one left
Carolyn’s hungry. She had a yard that looked like something out of a
magazine, the time she spent planting and weeding her garden was time well
spent in her eyes. She was a natural nurturer and cared for so many. She is
survived by her children, Thresea Perry and Craig Stephens, both of Columbus;
her grandchildren, Jason (Natalie) Perry, Jessica Perry, Natalie (Josh)
Ferrenburg and Jameson Stephens all of Columbus; her 8 great-grandchildren
and her brother, Delton Jeffries. She was preceded in death by her parents;
husband, James Stephens; brothers, Woodrow Jeffries and Elton Jeffries, and a
great grandson Clayton Perry. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on
Monday, October 13, 2025, at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport. A time
of visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m.
at the funeral home. Online condolences can be made to the family at
