Christine Townsend, 74

Christine M. Townsend, 74, of Greensburg, Indiana passed away at Franciscan Hospital on January 8, 2024.  Christine was born on October 20, 1949 in Greensburg to Richard and Charlotte (Leffler) Townsend. 

Christine graduated in 1967 from St. Paul High School. After graduating, she attended Ball State University and graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Following graduation she moved to Woodbridge, Virginia where she taught English at Woodbridge Senior High School for 10 years. After teaching for 10 years at Woodbridge, she stumbled into a job with Metro in Washington D.C. During that time, as a Curriculum Development Specialist, she helped develop courses in blood borne pathogens, customer service, and life and bomb threat security.

In 1999 she received a Master’s Degree from John Hopkins University in Environmental Sciences.

Her last position was as a Quality Assurance Specialist. She retired in 2005 and returned to Greensburg, Indiana in 2007 to care for her special needs sister.

Christine is survived by her loving sister, Beth Ann Townsend, sister, Carolyn (Gary) Sullivan, and many friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

 Arrangements have been entrusted to Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home. Per Christine’s wishes, she will cremated; there will be no visitation or funeral service. At a later date, a graveside service, officiated by Jeff Sangl, for family and friends will be at the Union Chapel Cemetery in St. Paul.
