Darrell S. Peetz, 78

Darrell S. Peetz, age 78, of Greensburg, passed away on May 8, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 27, 1945 in Greensburg to Melvin and Maxine Peetz. They precede him in death in addition to his brother Robert.

Darrell graduated from Greensburg High School in 1964. He retired from the Columbus Indiana Police Department after 20 years of service rising to rank of Lieutenant. During his tenure Darrell competed on the Pistol Team and participated on the Rescue Dive Team. He was President of the local FOP Lodge for several years as well as serving two years as President of the Indiana State Lodge. He also served three years as Chairmen of Ways and Means Committee of the National FOP. Darrell was a graduate and class representative of the 135th session of the FBI National Academy. Several prestigious awards were bestowed upon Darrell including “Sagamore of the Wabash”, “Kentucky Colonel”, and “Lt. Colonel of the Alabama State Militia”.

Following his retirement from the police department, Darrell began his second career working in the body armor industry. He worked for over 27 years advocating for the safety of military and law enforcement through the use of bullet resistant vests, shields, and helmets. Starting as a sales representative for a four-state territory, Darrell earned the industry’s respect through the development of relationships and demonstrating his knowledge of the industry as a shooter showcasing the ballistic integrity of the products. This led him to also serve as VP of National Sales, Director of International Sales, Director of Research and Development, and VP of Technical Support.

Darrell married Ronda Hudson Peetz June 27, 1998 and they have three children Chris (Cathy) Peetz, Brentwood, TN; Lindsey (Dustin Murray) Peetz, Louisville, KY, and Stephanie (Kyle Johnson) Peetz from Greensburg, IN, as well as grandsons Spencer and AJ Peetz.

Darrell deeply loved his family and friends. Hobbies included shooting, fishing, hunting, cooking, and working in the yard, as well as a passion for Harley motorcycles and Corvettes. He was known for having the greenest yard and cleanest vehicles.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on May 19th from 3 to 6 PM at Gilliland Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg. Funeral services will be May 20th at 11 AM at the funeral home followed by interment at Layton Cemetery.
