Dennis David Schwering, 86

Dennis David Schwering, age 86, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Morning Breeze in Greensburg. Dennis was born at home in Millhousen on December 14, 1934, to David and Elizabeth (Effing) Schwering. Dennis, also known as Henry, was the sixth out of eight children with siblings Stella (Virgil) Merkel, Thomas (Clara) Schwering, Daniel (Antoinette) Schwering, Evelyn (Justin) Johannigman, Samuel (Phyllis) Schwering, Lucille (Charles) Simon, and Patricia (Eugene) Simon. Evelyn and Patricia survive.

On September 7, 1954, Dennis married Mary Ann Buening and they had four children together, Timothy Schwering, Jeanne (Don) Fry, Nancy (Paul) Vanderpohl, and Monica (Steve) Horan. Mary Ann passed on August 2, 1970, just after Monica was born.

Dennis married Janet Riehle on January 20, 1973, and she survives along with their two sons Andy (Lisa) Schwering and Dan (Sara) Schwering.

Dennis was also a grandfather to 14 grandchildren, Othy (Jana) Schwering, Suzanne Little, Carl (Sayward) Fry, Kevin (Mollie) Fry, Holly (Wesley) Pray, Emily (Mitch) White, Chris Vanderpohl, Sarah (Patrick ) Graue, Alaina and Luke Schwering, Henry, Gus, Charlie, and Teddy Schwering with one more to arrive in January. Dennis also had 12 great-grandchildren, Ainsley and Hattie Fry, Annabelle and Lillian Fry, Mila Schwering, Paxton, Lennox and Hendryx White, June and Samantha Little, Dean and Frances Pray.

Dennis resided in Decatur County all his life and worked hard in various jobs to provide for his family.  He eventually retired from the Decatur County Highway Department in 1996, which allowed him some time to work with his son Dan and start the sawmill business.

In addition to his love for his wife, his children, and his grandchildren, Dennis loved horses, especially work horses, tending to his garden, playing lots of card games, going to dances, listening to blue grass and old country music, and being a jokester and teasing all those around him. He was a true light to be around.
