Donna Kay “Katie” Lamping, age 80, of Oldenburg, passed away on Thursday, July 11,
- Born June 10, 1944, in Greensburg, Indiana, she was the daughter of William and
Dona (née: Underhill) Black. Katie married Carl Lamping on August 14, 1965, at St. Mary’s
Catholic Church in Greensburg, IN.
Katie grew up in Greensburg where her dad was a home builder, and the family moved
around the town as he completed or sold his newly built properties. After their wedding,
Katie and Carl lived in Batesville and then Oldenburg. Returning to Greensburg after a few
years, she and Carl raised their family there. After the kids were grown and on their own,
they came back to Oldenburg to the family farm.
In her younger days, Katie was a carhop at the A&W drive-in and worked at the phone
company. As a homemaker, she spent numerous hours canning and baking as well as
crafting and reading. She babysat many children at home over the years and at times
worked locally as a bank teller. She also worked for Hill-Rom, Expressions Florist, Marsh
Supermarket, and most recently, Decatur County Memorial Hospital. She retired from her
position at the hospital in 2014.
Katie looked forward to vacations, especially trips to Florida to the beach. She had fun at
the casinos where she rarely seemed to lose and also had a rather significant Coca-Cola
collection. Going out for a day of shopping and lunch at a favorite restaurant was something
she looked forward to doing with her special people. She enjoyed social activities like
bowling in the women’s league and spending time with her family and friends. Katie loved
sharing inside jokes and lighthearted teasing with those she cared about and those who
helped to care for her. An active member and officer in the Daughters of Isabella,
Greensburg Circle, for many years, Katie was also a parishioner of Saint Catherine of
Sienna Catholic Church.
Katie is survived by her husband, Carl Lamping; daughters, Barb (Paul) Richardson of Milan
and Karla (Gary) Schumacher of Elizabethtown; sons, Don (Beth) Lamping of Greensburg
and Ron Lamping of Oldenburg; brother, Dave (Cheryl) Black of Davenport, FL; sisters,

grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was also
