Dorothy June Netherland, 93, of Greensburg, Indiana passed away on April 14, 2021. She was born on April 20, 1927 in Johnson County, Indiana the daughter of Oscar and Elsie (Hendricks) Deer. Dorothy was a 1945 graduate of Union Township High School and a 1949 graduate from Franklin College, where she was the President of the Zeta Tau Alpha and was also the secretary of the Women’s Athletic Association. She married Fred Netherland on July 24, 1949. Dorothy worked as a social worker at the Decatur County Welfare Department. She attended of the First Baptist Church of Greensburg. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with friends and family and loved watching Mark and Vincent playing sports. She moved to Franklin to be closer to her daughter in the later years. She met a wonderful group of women in Franklin and enjoyed lunch with them. In Franklin, she attended the Victory Christian Church.
Survivors include: Daughter, Mona (Michael) Riley; Sons, Mark (Becky) Netherland and Vincent (LuAnn) Netherland; Grandchildren, Hannah (Kevin) McGill, Henry Netherland, Kacy Netherland and Sara Netherland. She was preceded in death by her Parents; Husband, Fred Netherland; Brothers Noble Deer and Victor Deer.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 from 10:00 am until the time of the Funeral at 11:00 am. Rev. Cliff Bunch will be officiating. Services will be available on the Gilliland Howe Facebook Page. Burial will follow at the South Park Cemetery.
