Ella “Jeannette” Austin, 88

Ella ‘Jeannette’ Reed Austin, 88, of Greensburg, Indiana, passed away on March 8, 2024. She was born April 11, 1935 in Elkhart, Indiana the daughter of Ancil and Ada Reed.

Jeannette was a 1953 graduate of George Washington High School. Her first job was at Herff- Jones Supply Store, and her last job was as a social research Interviewer for the University of Michigan and Westat. Jeannette became a member of the Greensburg United Methodist Church in 1957 and was very active with service to her church.  She had taught a 32-week Bible Study, and led the hymns on Sundays for many years. Music had been a main focal point in her life, her first solo being in school when she was only 6. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and held many offices with BSP. Jeannette was a past President of the local Red Cross Chapter, and was active with Red Cross during the 1974 Tornado Disaster. She was a Charter Member of the Greensburg Historical Society, the president of the local Art Center.

Jeannette had two loving children, Gloria and Brooks. Jeannette loved taking many trips to Gatlinburg with her family. Each year she looked forward to spending Christmas Eve at church participating in the service with her family.

She is survived by her Son, Brooks Austin. She was preceded in death by:  Parents, Ancil O. Reed and Ada I. Stanley Reed; and Daughter, Gloria Austin.
