Helen Marie Benbow, 94, of North Vernon, passed away at 3:40 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon. She was born in on January 5, 1927 in Lee County, Virginia the daughter of John M. and Annie (Riddle) Head. She was born and raised in Virginia and was a former resident of Hardy and Williford, Arkansas, Michigan City, Indiana and Cherokee, North Carolina. She was employed at the U.S. Steel and Chrysler Corporation for 24 years. Helen enjoyed sewing, quilting, and collecting dolls. She married Albert L. Benbow on October 2, 1948 in Harlan, Kentucky and he preceded her in death on January 13, 2004. Survivors include her daughters, Viola Lane of Westport, Bonnie Hardebeck of Greensburg, Evelyn Beaty of Williford, Arkansas; son, Albert G. Benbow of Michigan City, Indiana; several grandchildren and great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughters, Diane Nelson, Christine Saylor Lossiah, Helen Wanda Benbow; brothers, Herman Head, Herbert Head, James Garfield Head and Robert Head; sisters, Mavis West, Bonnie Young and Jeanette Bussburg; grandchildren, David Saylor and Glenn Waire. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Pastor John Willis officiating. Burial will follow at Rockcreek Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, May 6, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
