Imelda “Melly” Allgeier, of Greensburg, IN, passed away peacefully on 5/24/2021 at her home. She was born September 8, 1938 and was the 4th of 7 children of Valentine “Jack” and Anna (Brandes) Simmermeyer of St. Mary’s of the Rock near Batesville, IN. Melly attended elementary school at St. Mary’s of the Rocks and completed her high school education at Oldenburg Academy.
On September 26, 1970 Melly was married to John J. Allgeier of Sunman, IN. Melly is survived by her husband, John, of 50+ years, their 2 children, Ann (Chris) DeWeese and Jim (Kim) Allgeier all of Greensburg. Melly loved her four grandchildren dearly and was able to see all of them before she passed. Grandchildren are Cameron DeWeese of Burlington VT, Emma DeWeese, Justin and Stephen Allgeier all of Greensburg. Additional survivors are two sisters, Jacqueline Armbruster of Aurora and Rose (Ray) Weisenbach of Batesville. Preceding Melly in death were her parents, brother Frank Simmermeyer, sisters Doris Doll, Martha Simmermeyer and Barbara Lecher.
Melly worked for 15 years at Proctor and Gamble in Cincinnati until getting married, then she moved to Greensburg where she was employed at Murphy’s Five and Dime, then later for Rust Wholesale. After her children were born she was an excellent stay at home mom, homemaker, gardener, cleaner of fish, and fantastic cook. Melly enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilt making and repairing her grandchildren’s clothes! Melly loved watching her grandchildren compete in sports and club activities (Football, Marching Band, Softball, Volleyball, Swimming) and was always their biggest fan! Later in her life, Melly and John started a catering business (J & M Catering) so she was able to do what she loved, cook and socialize. Melly cherished time with friends and family, playing cards and casinos. Melly was a very close and personal friend of Santa Clause!
Melly was a member of the St. Lawrence Aux #100 and The Linger A While Home Ec Club.
A Rosary Service will be held on Wednesday, May 26, at 3:30pm at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home. Visitation will follow from 4-7pm also at the funeral home.
A Funeral Mass will be held at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg with Rev. John Meyer officiating on Thursday, May 27, at 10am. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice, St. Mary’s of the Rock Preservation Society, or organization of choice.
