Jane Alice Herbert

Jane Alice was born on May 27, 1945 to Robert Kennedy and Elizabeth Lenora (Wilkinson) Bainbridge after a short battle with cancer, passed in her sleep on February 25, 2023 after days filled with loving visits from her family. Jane was a member of the First Presbyterian Church throughout her childhood. She graduated from Greensburg Community High School in 1963. She joined St. Mary’s Church before her marriage to Richard Lee Herbert on December 28, 1963 where they enjoyed many happy years together until his death in 2021. As a newlywed she worked at Decatur County Memorial Hospital as an aide enjoying taking care of people, a theme she had throughout her life. Jane chose to be a stay at home mom to their five children. First and foremost she was a mom to her five children; Debbie, Tim, Tom, Dan and Mindy and a fabulous Granny to Alyssa, Cory, Justin, Kaitlin, Ethan, Jared and Joe and truly loved being a great grandma to David, Simone, Rylan, Kinley, Easton, River and Brody because family made her happy and inspired her. She was a homemaker but she opened her doors to the many kids she babysat over the years. She was also a gifted seamstress, she always said that she couldn’t draw a straight line but the magic of her needle and thread sent many brides and bridesmaids down the aisle. She never advertised but always had more sewing than hours of the day. One of her favorite “jobs” was as head costumer for many productions of Tree County Players, she took pride in the players going out on stage looking like a professional production. As a member of St. Mary’s she spent many years teaching pre-school CCD, later teaching confirmation to the young Catholics. She also volunteered at the Bread of Life for many years both as kitchen help and food rescue. Later in life she and her husband began their love for old cars as they drove around in the Model A Ford cars, many afternoons they could be found driving the back roads of the county as well as touring the country with the Model A Restores Club of Columbus, IN. We know that both Dick and Jane are driving up in heaven in their little blue coupe with little Amelia Jane waving from the rumble seat, happy travels.

Jane is survived by her children: Deborah (Patrick) Romoser of Cartersburg, IN, Timothy (Julia) Herbert of Greensburg, Thomas Herbert of Greensburg, IN, Daniel (August) Herbert of Andersonville, IN and Melinda “Mindy” Herbert of Greensburg, IN. Grandchildren: Alyssa (Jesse) Wood, Cory Herbert (Mackenzie Bentham), Justin Herbert, Kaitlin (Bradley) Gwinnup, Ethan Herbert, Jared Romoser, and Joseph Romoser. Great grandchildren: David Webb, Simone Wood, Rylan, Kinley and River Herbert, Easton and Brody Herbert. Sister: Margaret (Donald) Herbert.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard, her sister Helen Stille and great granddaughter Amelia Jane Herbert.
