Marilyn Sue Thackery, 89

Marilyn Sue Thackery, age 89 of Greensburg, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at her home.  The daughter of Carl F. and Bernice M. (Monroe) Mohr was born on July 17, 1933 in Shelbyville, Indiana.

In 1951 she graduated from Waldron High School in Shelby County. She married John F. Thackery on May 31, 1953 in Wilson’s Corner, Shelby County, Indiana. They were married for 41 years before he passed away on Sept 30, 1994. 

Marilyn had many jobs, of course her most important was homemaker taking care of her family through the years. She also worked for KCL Corp in Shelbyville as secretary/clerk and then as the secretary at North Decatur High School for 31 years until retirement.  After she retired, Marilyn kept busy volunteering in town, whether at the hospital, Greensburg elementary schools, auditor and clerk’s office, church or working on the cheer fund. 

Marilyn was a 50+ year member of the New Point Christian Church where she was very involved throughout her life. She gladly served as Deaconess, pianist/organist, a charter member of the choir, Superintendent of Children’s Dept., clerk and Sunday school teacher at her beloved church. Marilyn was always involved in the community. She was a charter member of the North Decatur Music Parents, Den mother for Cub Scouts, past member of BPW, belonged to Better Halves Home Ec. Club, the Home Ec. Chorus and served as President of the PTA for New Point School. 

The avid reader had many hobbies, like doing family genealogy, playing music both vocal and instrumental, traveling around Europe and the Holy lands and all over the United States, but her favorite thing was spending time visiting with her children and their families. 

She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Janet (George) Chadwell of Greensburg; sons, David (Becky) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and Mark (Pam) of Greensburg; 6 grandchildren, Brad (Michelle) Chadwell, Julie (Scott) Osborn, Brent Thackery, Chris (Jennifer) Thackery, John (Amethyst) Thackery and Katy (John) Hubbard; 2 step-grandchildren, Jennifer Clemons and Jason Dyer; great grandchildren, Gabe (Reagan) Chadwell, Tiffany (Ricky) Kelley, Lindsay Chadwell, Alana and Colin Osborn, Elijah and Zakarya Thackery, Evan and Landon Thackery, Elliott and Ridley Thackery, Adeline and Leo Hubbard; step-greatgrandchildren, Brittany Dyer, Paige Hughes, Reese Dyer, Madeline and James Cochran and Owen Paluch along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John; son, Brian (Barb) Thackery; brothers, Bruce (Helen) Mohr and Lloyd (Alice) Mohr.

Visitation will be Monday, June 12, 2023 from 4-7pm at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville.  Funeral Services will be 10:00am on Tuesday, June 13th at New Point Christian Church with Randy Records officiating.  Burial will follow in the Rossburg Cemetery.
