Martha Morgan, 92

Martha Frances Morgan, 92, left this world April 6, 2023 at Arbor Grove in Greensburg,
IN. She was born September 29, 1930, to Dr. Millard F. Cupp and Hattie D. Cupp, in the
house in Clarksburg where she resided most of her life. Martha was a graduate of
Clarksburg High School. She married her childhood sweetheart, R. Loyd Morgan, in
Walton, KY on September 2, 1947. They were happily married for almost 71 years until
Loyd’s death in 2018.
Martha was a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker extraordinaire. She was an
excellent cook, loved tending flowers inside and out, as well as gardening, harvesting and
preserving food she had grown. She had vast amounts of knowledge in the fields of
botany and ornithology, and could speak Latin. She sewed, crocheted, embroidered and
knit. Martha was an avid enthusiast at crossword puzzles, and enjoyed playing card
games. Her family used to joke that she had a song for every occasion; being known to
burst out in song at any given moment. Martha loved the Lord and was a very active,
lifelong member of the Clarksburg Christian Church. She taught Sunday School and
Vacation Bible School, helped on numerous church committees, and belonged to the
Church’s women’s club, The Loyal Circle. For a number of years, Martha was a member
of Delta Theta Pi. Though a broken hip slowed Martha down three years ago, she
continued to embrace life to the fullest, and always loved seeing visitors.
Martha is survived by her children: George Morgan, Carole (Mike) Holbrook, and Janet
Shields, three grandchildren: Marla (Frank) Leaf, Seth (Nicole) Shields and Katherine
Shields, and seven great-grandchildren: Madeline and Makenna Bishop, Olivia Schils,
and Isabella, Conner, Hudson and Hazel Shields. She is also survived by her sister,
Harriett (Rockie) Henderson, several cousins and three nephews. She was preceded in
death by Loyd, her parents, step-father Willard Barnard, half-brother Frank Cupp, and
son-in-law Jack Shields.

Visitation and services for Martha will be held at the Clarksburg Christian Church on
April 15, 2023. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and the service at 11:30
a.m., with Pastor Jerran Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at the Clarksburg
Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be
made to either the Clarksburg Christian Church Funeral Committee or Clarksburg
Christian Church Loyal Circle. Online condolences can be made to the family at
