Maxine V. Welch, 86, of Westport, passed away at 2:20 a.m. on Tuesday, March 30, 2022 at her residence. She was born on May 5, 1935 in Jennings County the daughter of Ambrose & Viola (Large) Gerth. She was a lifelong resident of Jennings and Decatur Counties. She enjoyed playing bingo and euchre, communicating with family and friends and traveling. She married James A. Welch on April 14, 1963 in North Vernon and he preceded her in death on April 21, 2003. Survivors include her son, Michael J. Welch of Westport; her sisters, Delores (Mike) Walters of Columbus and Carolyn (Terry) Chase of Henderson, Nevada and her granddaughter, Jamie K. (Patrick W.) Frensemeier of Columbus. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, David Allen Welch; sister, Geneva Gerth; brothers, Glenn Gerth, Larry Gerth, Omer Gerth and Martin Gerth. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 4, 2022 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Pastor Mike Bartlett officiating. Burial will follow at the Westport Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Monday from Noon until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
