Nelson DeWitt Wheeler, 85

Nelson DeWitt Wheeler, 85, Greensburg, lost his battle with Covid on March 13, 2021.  He was a strong man and fought the battle for 6 long weeks.  He was a father, husband, and a good man.  He worked hard to provide for his family. He was loved and meant everything to them.   Nelson was blessed with many years; however, this gentle soul suffered due to this evil disease.  He is at peace, no longer suffering, and in a better place.

Nelson was born to Alvis and Olion (Turner) Wheeler on July 26, 1935 in Monroe County, Kentucky.

He enjoyed knife collecting, gardening, small engine repair, loved animals, motorcycles, and enjoyed traveling.

He retired from Reliance Electric (Reeves) in Columbus, Indiana after 32 years of service as a machinist.

He married Ellen Bernece Cross in Tompkinsville, Kentucky on June 27, 1956 and she survives.

He is also survived by three children, Reggie Wheeler, Lisa Wheeler, and Lana Wheeler, all of Greensburg; one sister, Rachel Creek, and a niece, Joyce (Danny) Smith, both of Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother in law Dessie Creek.

Private graveside services will be held at the South Park Cemetery in Greensburg, Indiana.  Memorials may be made to the Decatur County Humane Society. Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg has been entrusted with the arrangements.  Online condolences can be made to the family at www.popfuneralhome.com
