Phyllis Margaret Bergman, age 94 of Sunman, IN passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at St. Andrews Health Campus. The daughter of Melvin and Lydia (Huneke) Steinfort was born on February 19, 1929 at their home place in Batesville.
Phyllis graduated from Sunman High School and married Earl H. Bergman. She worked at Peoples Bank in Sunman first, before serving 37 years as the secretary/treasurer of Sunman Dearborn Schools. As a long-time member of Adams Lutheran Church, Phyllis was very involved with church activities and even a member of the Ladies Aid.
Phyllis always seemed to put others first. She never forgot a birthday and always had a card for you. She spent many hours going to nursing homes to visit and spend time with the residents, to brighten their day. Over the years she enjoyed tending to her flowers and gardening. Crossword puzzles were a daily habit with her too and of course, she loved her cats.
She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Sharon (Bob) Kreuzman of Batesville; two sons, Glenn Bergman and Dale (Donna) Bergman both of Sunman; 5 grandchildren, Scott (Lisa) Kreuzman, Mark Kreuzman, Kevin (Sidney) Kreuzman, Erik (Caitlin) Bergman and Kyle (Fiancé Hallie) Bergman; and 5 great grandchildren, Adyline Kreuzman, Kiersten Kreuzman, Brooks Kreuzman, Roger Bergman and Harold Bergman.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Earl; daughter, Glenna Bergman as an infant; and siblings, Donnell Steinfort and Doris Powell.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 12, 2023 from 9-11am with funeral services immediately following all at Adams Lutheran Church. Pastor Mark Booster officiating. Burial will follow in the Adams Church Cemetery in Batesville.
