Raymond “Butch” Edward Simmermeyer, 78

Raymond “Butch” Edward Simmermeyer, 78, of Oldenburg, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2022 surrounded by family.

He was born on February 17, 1944 in Batesville, Indiana to Joseph and Elizabeth (Freese) Simmermeyer.

Butch married Edith Nunlist on September 10, 1966.

Butch liked to make things out of wood and wrenching on cars. He could fix just about anything, even if it required duct tape. He was kindhearted, a huge story teller, and an all-around great father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and son. He was called several different names all of which he loved- Hammer, George, Murphy, Gpaw, Henry, etc., but he was never once was called “late for supper”.

Butch is survived by his wife, Edith Simmermeyer; daughters, Carla Dwenger (Wayne) and Rebecca Hornberger (Dwayne) and son, Anthony J. Simmermeyer (Lynn); grandchildren, Eric, Lee, and Amanda Dwenger, Sydney and Zakary Hornberger, Dakota Simmermeyer, and Jamie Lane; great grandchildren, Oliver, Charlee, Harley, Chessie, and Autumn Dwenger. Brother, Carl “Buck” Simmermeyer; sisters, Zola Ernstes, Agatha Glaub, Ruthann Rudolf, and Kathlyn Fichtner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Art and Dennis Simmermeyer; and sister, Ethel Schomber.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, December 9, 2022 at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 am on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville. Burial will follow immediately after at Holy Family Cemetery in Oldenburg.

Memorials may be given to either Holy Family Church or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana by bringing to the services or mailing to Meyers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 202, Batesville, IN 47006.
