Thelma Corya, 100

Thelma Corya, 100, of Greensburg, passed away March 3, 2022 at Aspen Place. She was born January 17, 1922 in Decatur County, the daughter of Raymond and Ruth (Colvin) Johnson. Thelma graduated from Greensburg High School in 1940 and went on to receive a B.S. in Statistics from Indiana University in Spring 1943. After graduation she was hired by Dupont to work at the Remington Arms Plant in Bridgeport Connecticut. As she was planning to leave her job in Bridgeport, she was recruited to work on the Manhattan Project.  Not knowing at the time what that was, she left to be married to Stewart Corya on November 7, 1944 in Douglas Arizona (no regrets!). Following the end of World War II, they returned to Decatur County and became lifelong farmers. Thelma was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and was a 50+ year member of PEO.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed multiple bridge clubs. She was always willing to help whether that meant lending an ear, helping someone in need, or just adding a plate at the table.

Survivors include: Her son – Bruce (Kathi) Corya of Greensburg, IN and children Frank (Heilda) Bellucci and family and Rich (Stefanie) Bellucci and family; her daughter – Mary Ruth (John Bushey) Corya of Eden Prairie, MN, and children Zane (Mallory) Bushey and Sam Bushey.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from10:30 am to12:00 pm on Friday March 11th at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home, Greensburg. Funeral services follow at 12:00 p.m. Margaret Lowe will be officiating. A private interment follows at the South Park Cemetery.
