Thomas Porter, 82

Thomas Porter, 82, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at Our Hospice Inpatient Facility in Columbus. He was born November 3, 1939, in Greensburg, Indiana, the son of John Henry and Rose (Tumilty) Porter.

Tom graduated from Greensburg High School in 1958. After high school he graduated from mortuary school and joined his father in the funeral business.  He served two terms as Decatur County Coroner, and he served as President of the Indiana Funeral Directors Association in 1973.  He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

Tom enjoyed spending time at his lake house in Wisconsin with his wife and family, playing poker with his buddies, performing magic shows for his grandchildren and small groups, and exploring his roots on a trip to Ireland with Glenda and his girls. 

He was married to Glenda J. McNew on August 24, 1957, and she survives.

He is also survived by three children, Mike (Nancy) Porter, Cindy (Brian) Reed, Diana (Bob) Arnold; grandchildren, Matt (Leann) Porter, Joni (Keith) Krieger, Cody Reed, Shelbi (Sam) Domjen, Duran (Ericka) Reed; great grandchildren, Stella, Adeline, and Ruby Porter, Sloan and Georgette “Gigi” Domjen, Louie Krieger.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dick Porter; brother-in-law, Robert N. Arnold; sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Porter and Bonnie Arnold.

Family and friends will gather at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, June 27, 2022, at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg to pray the rosary. Visitation will follow until 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Tuesday from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church followed by the funeral Mass to be held at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. John Meyer officiating. Interment will be held in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg.  Memorials may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church or to “Our Hospice of South Central Indiana”.
