William S. Colson, 86

William S. Colson, 86, of Greensburg passed away on September 19, 2021 he was born at home in New Point, on December 12, 1934 in Decatur County, Indiana the son of Harley B. and Estella (Kruse) Colson.  He was raised on the family farm south of New Point. Bill joined the US Navy for a 4 year enlistment on January 2, 1952 and honorably discharged on December 9, 1955. He served on the destroyer class ships with 3 years and 6 months sea duty.  He continued his education after his discharge under the GI Bill of Rights.

Following his USN era, he worked for General Electric for 35 years in three plants being two in Shelbyville and Fort Wayne, Indiana. The last 25 years he was in management of maintenance and engineering.  He took early retirement in June of 1990. Bill worked to stay busy in construction and truck driving. In 1998 he was employed by Custom Conveyor Inc. for most of 16 years. Late 2011 thru early 2013 he worked for Webb Stiles of Valley City, Ohio on special assignments. He enjoyed traveling with work and several assignments in Mexico, Canada, and China.  He returned to work for CCI mid-2013. He attended Mt. Pleasant UMC for 40 years until it closed and then took membership at Greensburg First Baptist Church.  Bill married Janet Lee Mozingo on September 5, 1953 in Monks Corner, South Carolina. She preceded him in death on July 18, 2006. 

Survivors include: Children, Larry Colson, Jill (Paul) Wilson, and Jimmy (Angie) Colson all of Greensburg, Indiana; Grandchildren, Andrea (Brian) Phillips, Abby (Kyle)Kolb, Michael (Abby) Colson, Jennifer Colson, Jane (Chad) Mathews, Jody (Jeremiah) Westerfeld and 4 Step Grandchildren; Great Grandchildren, Caleb Wright, Corbin Mathews, Regan Westerfeld,  Jada Lee, Layne Lee, Ashton Lee, Kendall Mathews, Fran Westerfeld and 2 Step Great Grandchildren; Sisters, Pauline Ponsler and Mary Lou Agruso; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Brother, John L. Colson.

A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home on Friday, September 24, 2021 from 11:00 am until the Funeral at 2:00 pm. Rev. Cliff Bunch will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Union Baptist Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
