Bill tracking cursive writing education in Indiana schools has been signed into law

A bill authored by State. Sen Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg) that will track how many Indiana students are being taught cursive writing was signed into law by the governor.

Senate Enrolled Act 72 requires school corporations to report to the Indiana Department of Education on whether cursive writing is a part of their curriculum and at what grade level it is being taught.

“Knowing how to read and write in cursive is an important professional skill still used in our workforce today,” Leising said. “I am pleased to see this bill signed into law, as it is a step in hopefully ensuring our students across the state have the equal opportunity to learn this skill.”
