Charges filed in Bartholomew County in connection with fatal accident

From the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department

MAN INVOLVED IN NEW YEAR’S DAY FATALITY OFFICIALLY CHARGED ON JULY 11, 2022

On January 1, 2022, approximately 1:29 a.m., Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a personal injury vehicle crash near the 59.5 mile-marker on N I-65.  On arrival, deputies located multiple victims including a 40-year-old female who was deceased at the scene.

Marcus Abram, 26, Muncie, IN, was one of the drivers involved in the crash.  It’s alleged that Abram admitted to drinking earlier that night but refused testing.  Deputies obtained a search warrant for a blood draw and Abram was not arrested the night of the incident.  Members of the Fatal Accident Reconstruction Team concluded that Abram was traveling over 100 mph prior to striking a vehicle that was pulled over in the median.  Blood results showed Abram to be three times the legal limit at the time of the crash.

On July 11, 2022, the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office officially charged Abram involving allegations of:

Operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death

Operating a vehicle while intoxicated – with a previous conviction

The court issued a warrant for Abram’s arrest.

On July 15, 2022, ILP (Intelligence Lead Policing) Unit contacted the Noblesville Police Department for assistance in locating Abram.  Although NPD was unable to locate him, they did make contact with family members and Abram turned himself in to the Bartholomew County Jail that evening.

He has since bonded out.

All persons are considered innocent unless/until proven guilty in a court of law.
