ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE YOUTH TO VISIT WASHINGTON, D.C.

Indiana Youth Tour provides young Hoosiers the opportunity to visit the nation’s capital, experience American history, learn more about government and gain a better understanding about their electric cooperative. The 2026 Indiana Youth Tour is June 14-21.

According to Abby Asher, Sr. Marketing & Communications Specialist of Decatur County REMC, Indiana will send a delegation of students from throughout the state. The students, selected by the local electric cooperatives, will travel to Washington for the weeklong experience and convene with students from up to 46 other states.

“Decatur County REMC is thrilled to offer this life-changing opportunity to local students,” said Abby. “The trip allows them to experience government up close, connect with other young leaders, and understand how they can make a real impact in their communities.”

Students participating in the trip will visit the Flight 93 Memorial, Gettysburg Battlefield, Arlington National Cemetery, National Museum of the Marine Corps or Army and Smithsonian museums. The delegation will also tour the National Mall memorials, meet new friends from across the country and much more.

The Indiana Youth Tour students will also participate in a youth event hosted by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association and spend a day on Capitol Hill, where they will have an opportunity to meet with Indiana’s congressional delegation to ask questions and share their thoughts on a variety of timely issues.
