Dearborn County post by Lt. Kevin Turner
On December 15, 2022 at around 4:35 PM Dillsboro Fire Department was called to a working structure fire at the Laughrey Valley AG 11016 US 50 Dillsboro, Indiana. Fire fighters arriving on scene found one of the buildings of the agricultural supply business with heavy flames and smoke. Fire fighters began a defensive fire attack. Mutual aid was called from fourteen different fire departments, which included fourteen water tenders (trucks that bring water to the fire scene, return to a hydrant, refill, and bring water back), two ladder trucks with master streams, several engines, and three ambulances from three different emergency rescue services. Three police departments responded to assist with traffic as US 50 was shut down due to fire operations. While a hydrant was able to supply one of the ladder trucks, the water tenders kept a supplemental nearly uninterrupted supply to the second ladder and other engine providing suppression. Fire fighters were able to keep the fire away from a large propane tank at the rear of the business. The scene was cleared shortly before midnight. A damage estimate is not available, but buildings were destroyed. No one was reported injured at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office, and no cause has been determined as of this press release.
