JACKSON CO., Ind. — The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department has recruited its first four-legged officer.
Her name is Nyx, and her handler is Sgt. Ben Rudolph.
Nyx is a Dutch Shepherd and Belgian Malinois mix. She is trained as a police utility dog, with expertise in narcotic detection, building and area searches, tracking and aggression control.
The department was able to buy Nyx and pay for her training thanks to a $35,553 grant from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security. No tax dollars were used to pay for the program.
Sgt. Rudolph is certified through the North American Police Work Dog Association.
