Greensburg Board of Zoning Appeals

The Greensburg Board of Zoning Appeals met on Tuesday.

The President is Alan Campbell and the Vice President is Philip Deiwert.

Tom and Karen Stricker came to the board requesting a variance for a front yard setback. This is on an empty lot for a new home to be built. The area is an older development and the surrounding houses will sit further forward than their home. This was approved.

Brian Spencer came to the board with his council to appeal a decision from February 2022 on a variance for a carport due to setbacks and an additional accessory structure. The request had been denied in February due to the fact that the carport had been put up before getting permission from the city as well as the possibility of it sitting on city right of way. The council representing Spencer was Ethan Rennebaum. They believe the main reason for the carport being put up is to help with a disability that heightens a fall risk and that Indiana code was ignored when the variance was denied. The board believes this problem could have been avoided had proper procedure been followed and they want to make sure to enforce the existing rules. This was tabled for an unofficial appraisal as well as a survey to find where right of way and property lines are.
