North Decatur Varsity Chargers had trouble keeping up with Union County in a 14-2 loss on Tuesday at North Decatur High School. Union County got on the board in the top of the first inning after Cole Cheatham grounded out, Isaiah Martinez doubled down the left field line, and Nolan Burkhart balked, each scoring one run. Union County added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Coleton Wicker doubled down the left field line and Isaiah Lowe singled to center field, each scoring two runs. Union County extended their early lead with three runs in the top of the third thanks to RBI singles by Dalton Creech and Martinez. Logan Boone earned the win for Union County. The hurler allowed two hits and two runs over five innings, striking out six and walking three. Henry Kinker pitched three and one-third innings in relief for North Decatur Varsity Chargers. The reliever gave up 10 hits and seven runs while, striking out three and walking four. Burkhart took the loss for North Decatur Varsity Chargers. The starter went one and one-third innings, surrendering seven runs (one earned) on two hits, striking out one and walking four. Xander Jones and Kinker each collected one hit for North Decatur Varsity Chargers. Eli Trenkamp led North Decatur Varsity Chargers with one run batted in. Burkhart stole three bases. Union County collected 12 hits in the game. Cheatham, Wicker, Martinez, and Lowe each collected two hits for Union County. Wicker and Martinez each drove in three runs for Union County. Creech paced Union County with four walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, piling up nine walks for the game. Union County ran wild on the base paths, tallying four stolen bases for the game. Union County turned one double play in the game. Union County were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Xander Hounchell made the most plays with seven. North Decatur Varsity Chargers welcome Hauser on Wednesday for their next game. |
