Under the clear, cool night sky, the Chargers withstood a storm to claim victory over the 2A Royals. The Royals defense swarmed the Chargers all night with relentless pressure, but the Chargers weathered the onslaught and found the end zone again and again.
The Chargers found the end zone first on a 51-yard pass from Matthew Fields to Hunter Meister and would then add the 2-point conversion to boot. The Chargers would find the end zone again at the 2:50 mark of the first quarter on a 9-yard run by Simon Barber. The Royals would, however, not go gently into sweet night and answered at the 1:13 mark of the first quarter on a 25-yard run by Mark Kube. The rest of the evening felt like a heavyweight boxing match, with each team taking and receiving punch after punch.
Ultimately, the Chargers won the contest and earned their victory against a solid ball club in Eastern Hancock. Corbin Thackery led the Chargers in rushing yards with 154. Matthew Fields was 10 of 17 with one interception, three touchdowns, and 219 yards passing.
Defensively, Thackery and Simon Barber led the Chargers in tackles. Next up for the boys in blue will be perennial rival, Milan.
