Greensburg Pirates Cross-Country teams competed in the 24th Eagle Classic Saturday

The Greensburg Pirates Cross-Country teams competed in the 24th Eagle Classic Saturday at Nashville, IN.  The Pirates had athletes in four different races throughout the morning in Brown County.  The first Greensburg harrier to compete was Joe Hawkins.  Hawkins ran a strong race finishing in 15:39.3 for 5000m. The senior placed 10th overall in the Elite Race that featured 10 ranked teams from around the state. 

The Pirates also had runners in the AA Varsity Races.  In the boys’ competition, Pike High School had the top two finishers in the race and won the team title with 52 pts.  Greensburg placed 7th out of 21 teams in the large school division.  The Pirates’ record for 2025 stands at 52-18. 

Xavier Cassis was the top finisher for Greensburg.  The Pirate senior placed 10th in a time of 17:01.9.  Quinton Walker was next taking 16th in 17:12.9.  Sophomore Henry Corya earned 74th in 19:13.9 while Conner Bedel placed 81st in 19:28.5.  Jackson Tekulve took 85th in 19:33.7.  Xavier Wade finished 98th in 19:58.1, and teammate Luke Dwenger was 99th in 19:58.3.

In the girls’ race, Brownsburg High School was the team championship with 74 pts.  The Lady Pirates finished 14th out of 27 teams in the big school division.  They now have a record of 49-25 this fall.  Greensburg’s Eleanor Davis led the race from start to finish to earn the individual win running 19:08.5.  Freshman Lulu Webb placed 11th in 20:21.6.  Alaina Bedel earned 50th in a time of 21:55.3.  Allison Bedel was 144th in 24:38.3, and Josie Slaven placed 149th in 24:56.3.  Other Greensburg finishers included Chloie Davis (27:02.8), Elizabeth Walden (29:15.2), and Avonlee Bohall (30:17.2). 

The Greensburg boys also had a team in the Reserve Competition.  Lawrence Central’s Daniel Rogers was the individual champion in 17:29 while the Zionsville Eagles won the team title with 47 pts beating Carmel on their 6th runner.  The Pirates placed 10th out of 14 compete teams.  Ethan Clifford was the top finisher for Greensburg. 

The junior set a new personal record running 20:03.6 for 81st place overall.  The next two finishers for Greensburg were seniors.  Malakai Nicolaides ran 20:07.1 for 83rd while Dante Hess was 84th in a season best time of 20:13.3.  The other Pirate runners included Patrick Robbins (21:02.6), Noah Grossman (21:06.4), Oliver Corya (21:15.2), and Zayden Mathews (31:02.5).  Greensburg’s next meet will be Tuesday evening when the Pirates host the Decatur County meet.  The boys’ race begins at 5:00 pm with the girls to follow.  Greensburg will also honor their five senior athletes that evening before the awards.
