Davvie (Dave) Neal Moffett, 85

Davvie (Dave) Neal Moffett passed away on November 8, 2025, lovingly surrounded
by family. Dave was born in Letts, Indiana on November 27, 1939, the son of Dale
H. and Leona Jeanette (Maddux) Moffett. He grew up in Gaynorsville and graduated
from Sandcreek High School in 1957. Following high school, Dave bravely answered
the call of duty, joining the U.S. Navy. After his time in the Navy, he worked
for Cummins for 32 years before retirement. If you know Dave, you know he
couldn’t sit still. He retired a second time a few years later from Milestone
Paving. In 1961 he married the love of his life, Patricia (Patsy) Ann Wills
Moffett. Together they raised their four children Lisa (Patrick) Rooney, Brenda
(Patrick) Duhaime, Wendy (Kyle) Apperson, and David Steven “Steve” Moffett.
The essence of his character—connecting with people—was evident in his first
letter home from the Navy. He inquired about his brother’s fishing and wrote,
“I want to hear from them and all of you guys.” This line summed him up. He was
always interested in what his family and friends were up to, how he could be
helpful, and he always wanted to hear from them. His frequent calls to catch up
with family members will be sadly missed. His competitive spirit can be found in
each of his children and grandchildren, a trait he ensured would thrive by
showing up to every single sporting event he possibly could, whether up the road
or across state lines. The pride on his face when he talked about his children,
grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was undeniable. Pa, as he was
affectionately known, enjoyed hosting friends in his garage (aka man cave) to
Cheer on the Hoosiers, while simultaneously watching NASCAR, playing cards, pool
or ping pong. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of getting breakfast and coffee
with friends daily at local diners (the group was fondly referred to as the
“Liars Club”). He also found great peace and satisfaction in the quiet ritual of
mowing his yard, gardening and harvesting and sharing fresh tomatoes and other
vegetables. He loved the open road, often driving long distances to visit
friends and family. Dave is survived by his four children; nine grandchildren,
Ryan Duhaime, Lauren (Spenser) Duhaime, Whitney (Brian) Middleton, Britney
(Chris) Booher, Courtney (Adam) Stewart, Nathan (Stephanie) Apperson, Patrick
(Denise) Rooney; James Rooney, Kali Moffett, and fourteen great-grandchildren,
JP and Mason Deery; Bindi Middleton; Lucas, Ruby, and Hazel Booher; Simon and
Maxwell Stewart; Jack, Charlie, Henry, Finn, Emma and George Rooney.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia “Patsy” Ann Moffett; his
parents, Dale H. and Leona Jeanette Moffett; and his brothers Johnny and Randy.
Visitation will be held on Saturday November 22, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. until
2:00 p.m. at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted
at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025, with Pastor David Scaggs
officiating. Burial will follow at the Westport Cemetery, which will be followed
by a Celebration of Life open to all friends and family at the Westport
Community Building. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s
Hospital through the funeral home. Online condolences can be made to the family
at www.bassgasper.com.
