A collaborative community effort brought support and holiday cheer to local families this Thanksgiving season. RISE for Justice, the Decatur County PRIDE Alliance, and the Greensburg Culinary Arts Class joined forces to collect donations for “Thanksgiving Meal in a Bag” kits from November 5 through November 23.

On Sunday, November 23, volunteers distributed the completed meal kits to families across the county. A total of 81 families signed up for assistance, and organizers were able to meet every request—feeding 219 individuals in all. Any remaining donated food was shared among the three community food boxes located throughout town, ensuring nothing went to waste.
Local businesses played an important role in the success of the drive, serving as donation drop-off sites. Participating locations included:
- Five Point Tires
- Langen Meats
- Sherwin-Williams
- Revive Wellness
- Wendy’s
- Small Town Sports
- Dog-Eared Pages
- Tree City Stitches
- Amaco (Lincoln & 46)
- Papa John’s
- Bigger Than Texas
Greensburg High School and Greensburg Elementary School also contributed as major collection points, helping bring in a significant portion of donations.

One of the most heartwarming moments of this year’s effort came from Sophia, a young community member who demonstrated remarkable compassion and initiative. With a goal of helping neighbors stay warm, she collected and distributed free coats, hats, gloves, and blankets—filling 12 large bags with cold-weather gear. Remaining items were then shared with coat donation boxes at the Health Department and the Greensburg-Decatur County Public Library.
The success of this year’s drive highlights the power of community collaboration and the generosity of local residents, businesses, and youth making a difference one act of kindness at a time.
