DCMH AND DECATUR COUNTY EMS BRING EMERGENCY SAFETY TRAINING TO DSI

Greensburg, IN – January 16, 2026, Decatur County Memorial Hospital (DCMH), in partnership with Decatur County EMS (DCEMS), recently had the opportunity to connect with members of Developmental Services Inc. (DSI) through an interactive emergency safety presentation focused on preparedness, confidence, and community connection.

Led by DCMH’s Staff Development Coordinator, Anne Swinney, alongside the DCEMS Manager, Matt Myers, and the DCEMS team, the presentation emphasized the importance of scene safety and recognizing when to call for help. Participants also learned practical, everyday emergency response basics, including what to do during bleeding emergencies, burns, head and neck injuries, choking incidents, and other common situations where quick action can make a difference.

A key component of the visit was hands-on learning. DSI participants took part in bleeding emergency training and were able to tour DCEMS ambulances, ask questions, and engage directly with healthcare professionals in a relaxed, supportive setting.

Beyond the skills taught, the event was designed to strengthen relationships and build familiarity. By creating opportunities for community members to interact with healthcare and emergency responders outside of high-stress situations, DCMH and DCEMS actively build comfort, trust, and reassurance.

“Helping our community feel informed, prepared, and supported is at the heart of what we do,” said Swinney.

By engaging with healthcare and emergency responders through calm guidance, education, and support, community members come to recognize them as dependable, approachable sources of help when it matters most.

“When people know what to expect and who to turn to, emergencies can feel less overwhelming,” said Myers. “We are a steady, calming presence when help is needed most.”

DCMH is grateful to Developmental Services Inc. for the opportunity to collaborate and to the Decatur County EMS team for their continued dedication to education, outreach, and community well-being.

Together, these partnerships help build safer, more confident communities, one connection at a time.
