WTRE recently spoke with Patricia Louagie, First Deputy – Election Deputy, regarding the current status of candidate filings in Decatur County.With the filing deadline quickly approaching,
Louagie said a number of local offices still have no candidates who have filed to run.
As of now, the following positions remain without any filings:
County Offices
County Recorder
County Coroner
Township Trustee Positions
Clinton Township Trustee
Saltcreek Township Trustee
Washington Township Trustee
Township Advisory Boards(Each board will elect three members)
Adams Township Advisory Board
Clay Township Advisory Board
Clinton Township Advisory Board
Fugit Township Advisory Board
Jackson Township Advisory Board
Marion Township Advisory Board
Saltcreek Township Advisory Board
Sandcreek Township Advisory Board
Washington Township Advisory Board
Town Positions
St. Paul Town Council (elect two members)
Louagie noted that while many offices remain uncontested, there are currently two contested races in the county:
County Council District 3
County Council District 4
Residents interested in serving their community are encouraged to consider filing before the deadline.
The deadline to file for the 2026 election is Thursday, February 6, at 12:00 p.m. (NOON).
Filings must be completed at the Decatur County Clerk’s Office.For additional information on filing requirements or available positions, individuals are encouraged to contact the Decatur County Election Office.
